show, visitors, remodeling... oh, my!

Into the Woods opens tomorrow!  It's shaping up really well, and I am excited for its opening night for lots of different reasons.

Over Memorial Day weekend we had Aunt Fran and Uncle Jeff visiting from Boise.  Aunt Fran and I picked up some fabric for her to make curtains for the baby's room.  It's quite adorable with colorful turtles and the colors go well with almost all of the art work we have picked out for the baby's room.  I can't wait to see them.  She was going to make them here, but when we realized that we wouldn't be able to see the finished product right away because the baby's room is being remodeled, she decided to make them at her house so we'd have more time to visit.  That worked out well because with my theater schedule, it did end up being a bit of a whirlwind visit.  Nevertheless, we made multiple trips to Molly Moon's, walked with the dogs, went out for a delicious meal at La Medusa, and relaxed and talked.

Also in town, but staying elsewhere, was my Uncle Phil and his partner-in-crime Melanie and her son, Corey.  As always it was great to see Uncle Phil and it was very nice to meet  Melanie and Corey.  We all went to watch the Mariners play the Giants and met a bunch of Melanie's family as well.  The game was pretty good, went fast, and I didn't get too terribly sunburnt.  Afterward, we went back to my house where John made fajitas and we stuffed our faces until it was time for Uncle Phil, Melanie, and Corey to head home.

Monday Aunt Fran and Uncle Jeff headed back to Boise, and John and I prepped the house for contractors to be arriving Tuesday to start remodeling the upstairs.  Unfortunately for John, I ended up running out of time before rehearsal started, so while I did participate in a ton of work prior to rehearsal, he ended up doing the bulk of the cleaning out of the rooms.  What remodeling are we doing you ask?  Well, in the upstairs bathroom, we are having the old sink and cabinet, tub surround and floor tile torn out and having 2 new sink/cabinets and tile on the floors and the tub surround installed.  We also had the bathtub reglazed last week.  It's now white instead of a pukey beigy pink color.  In addition to the bathroom, we're having drywall put up in the staircase area, hallway, and the baby's room (formerly known as the fish tank room).  It's all supposed to be done in 6 days... we'll see.

Teagan and Ronan are doing surprisingly well with the contractors milling about.  I was expecting Ronan to whine because he wants to join in the fun and Teagan to bark because she's terrified that strangers are in the house, and both dogs have been pretty quiet for most of the last two days.  They are a little kooky at night, though, because, with leaving the theater so late at night, I've been too tired to take them for walks in the morning.  You'd think running around in the backyard would do the job, but it doesn't for some reason.

Speaking of dogs in the backyard, I should let them out before I head off to work.

Seattle Shower

Last Sunday our friends Diane and Gary threw us a baby shower.  There are pictures up from it here.  We got so many great gifts and heard funny stories and enjoyed delicious treats.  I do believe fun was had by all.

We learned at my last OB appointment that there will be no need for any ultrasounds since everything has been progressing so normally.  This news is good because it's, well, normal, but a little disappointing because we were secretly hoping for a baby sucking on his thumb in the womb picture.

I have come to realize that I now pee about every hour if I am drinking as many fluids as I am supposed to.  It's rather silly.  I was also joking today that I'm not above using Poise pads, but hopefully it won't come to that.

Into the Woods opens in a little over a week.  It's stressing me out because I have lots of little things to fix, but overall it's looking all right.  You should come see my last show before baby comes.  www.youththeatre.org

John and I will be signing up for the last of our childbirth prep and infant care classes.  Baby comes in 7 weeks, and we'd prefer to complete the classes before he arrives.  He better not come early--we have too much to do between now and then.  Smile

Pillow Fort

John has declared my latest sleeping arrangement looks like a fort.  The fort requires 3 pillows.  Pillow fort + John and Trina + 2 doggys all in one bed has become a little bit silly and incredibly hot, so we've started to go back to a time when the dogs slept in their own beds.  Reteaching the dogs to sleep in their own beds hasn't been as hard as I thought, and they've been staying put all night, but some how manage to climb up around 5 a.m.  It's like they know our resistance is lowered when we're trying to grab on to another hour of sleep.  Smile

Thinking about the doggy sleeping arrangements has also brought to mind how the arrangements will need to change again when baby comes home.  Since we're planning on having the baby sleep in our room for the first little while, we'll have to put the dogs some place else for sleeping.  In the end they'll be fine sleeping in another room, but they've been sleeping with us for so long, that it feels like the end of an era so to speak.

In other news, I passed my glucose test and I am not anemic.  Woohoo!  Also my OB went on maternity leave earlier in April, so I met my new doctor at the last appointment.  She reminds me a lot of Mrs. Bogan, who was my freshman English teacher at EGHS, which is a little funny to meet and probably even funnier to my friends who also had her as a teacher.  This coming Thursday is my next appointment and begins the cycle of bi-weekly appointments.

Getting to the end, but luckily there's still a lot of time left because we're not really prepared.

Return to Seward Park

Seward Park is one of my favorite places to walk in Seattle.  It has lots of old-growth trees, lovely views, broad walking paths.  We used to take Teagan a lot when she was a puppy (see pics below), but then we sorta had to stop going as she became increasingly afraid to walk there.

Well, I'm so pleased to announce that we went there yesterday for the first time in a long time, and Teagan had such a good time.  She pranced around and sniffed things almost the entire length of the 2.6-mile loop!  When we'd stop, she'd look up at smile at us.  Oh, it was precious!  Also, Ronan did not jump nor make any attempts to jump on people, which is a big step in the right direction for him, too.  He's such an attention whore.

Since it went so well, we've made plans to add Seward Park back in to our weekly routine.  Hooray!

We also did some yardwork yesterday.  John did much more than me, but I still managed to weed and prep the flower and garden beds for long enough that my butt is really sore today from all that squatting.  Sick  I tried to stretch it out this morning, but my belly or Ronan kept getting in the way.  Hopefully this morning's walk worked it out enough....
